Blue Light Therapy and The Medical Field

Blue light might be a harmful thing if it comes from your desk lamp, but the light color has numerous benefits for medical professionals and is extensively used for treating medical conditions– here are some of its uses:

-          Sterilization – medical equipment needs to be sterilized thoroughly to remove all bacteria and exposure to blue light is one of the most efficient sterilization methods known today. Many healthcare facilities today use blue light to sterilize not only the ortho instruments and medicalequipment, but beds, handles, knobs and other surfaces the perfect cleanliness of which is essential;

-          Treatment for acne – teenage and adult acne is usually caused by the proliferation of certain bacteria on the surface of the skin. One of the most modern ways to treat acne is through the exposure of the affected skin areas to blue light in the dermatologist’s office. The treatment has almost immediate beneficial effects, reducing the inflammation that causes the spots and facilitating the healing process;

-          Wound healing – blue light promotes the healing of larger, deeper wounds the same way it helps acne wounds to heal.

Blue light is currently used mostly in professional environments, but the technology has lots of great directions for development, so maybe we will soon see blue light lamps suitable for cleaning homes or for being otherwise used in home environments.
