A hospital administrator is the head of business operations, or the general manager of a hospital or medical center that belongs to a large chain of hospitals. The administrator is responsible for carrying out each hospital-related operation, process and business in an efficient and productive manner.
A hospital is typically run as a small or medium-sized business and follows conventional business practices. A hospital administrator, the head of business operations, must ensure the proper functioning of the hospital. Vital aspects of the business include human resources for recruitment and selection, allocation of funds and budgets, establishment of procedures and practices, databases and computer management systems and related organizational activities. He/ she interacts with and coordinates staff and other employees and informs them about their roles.
Ideally, a hospital manager is also an experienced doctor. Depending on the functions described, a he/ she can be a specialist or a general practitioner.
But medical knowledge is not enough. As such, in the conditions of participation in the competition organized for hiring a hospital manager, the requirement of graduating management programs (human resources, health organization, general health economy) are always stipulated. The hospital will only gain if a multi-qualified and trained person is hired as administrator. For more interesting articles like this check out Apiary Medical.
