How Long Is The Average Surgery?

basic surgical average surgery time patient outgoing medical instruments

Surgery is an important moment in the life of every patient. The thought of having to undergo surgery can often be frightening, generating preoperative anxiety, which is a natural reaction.  You can be rest assured that all surgeons have the basic surgical instruments they need to do the surgery with skill and excellence.

The therapeutic plan in case of an average surgery includes several stages, so the entire process will take a few days:

Investigations before surgery

Preoperatively, it is recommended to perform usual blood tests (hemoleukogram, blood group and Rh, ESR, urea and serum creatinine, serum transaminases, coagulogram), useful to assess the patient's biological status. The heart function will also be routinely investigated using an electrocardiogram. Depending on the type of condition and the scheduled surgery, specific investigations will be recommended.

Hospitalization

Depending on the complexity of the surgery, one can opt for one-day hospitalization (situation in which the patient will undergo surgery, being cared for a few hours postoperatively, until the general condition allows discharge on the same day), or for a hospitalization of more days (situation in which, after the surgery, the patient will be initially monitored in the intensive care unit, being subsequently transferred to the reserve on the surgery department).
