There are people who want to become surgeons because they want to save and improve other people`s lives. It is a noble purpose and a noble profession, but also one of the most difficult. To achieve this dream, you must go through several years of solid education and specialized training. It is a long process, but the stakes of such a profession are also extremely important, so there are no compromises.

Before starting such a career, you need to know if you have the right personality to become a surgeon. You must be sure that you are able to work under constant and high pressure and organize yourself very well in crisis situations. You will need the ability to focus for long periods of time and to master large amounts of information.

The next step is going through the medical training including thorough knowledge of all surgical tools and their names and functions. The average duration of medical training is four years. After graduation, you will get an M.D. or a D.O. degree, but in order to become a surgeon, you cannot stop here; you must complete your studies and enroll in a surgical residency program.

Once you have reached this stage, you must decide on the type of surgery you want to practice. There are different types of surgery you can choose to focus your efforts on: cardiology, general surgery (abdominal surgery, video laparoscopic surgery and traumatic surgery), orthopedic surgery or neurosurgery.

Your experience in the first years of medical school will help you narrow your options to a single type.
