Due to the technological innovations of the last years, as
well as due to the invention of robotic surgery from surgical instruments suppliers, the precision of the surgical
procedures has increased exponentially, reducing the duration, as well as the
auxiliary medical personnel needed during a complex intervention such as an
open heart surgery or the removal of a tumor formation. These superior surgical
tools assist surgeons during the interventions.
For example, the Da Vinci surgical system gives the specialist
precision, dexterity and control in using miniaturized instruments that are
introduced through small incisions of 1-2 cm. Recovery is much faster than in
the case of using traditional surgical tools. These miniaturized instruments
are mounted on 3 separate robotic arms, which allow the surgeon a wide range of
movements and increased precision. On a fourth arm is mounted a 3D camera that
allows high definition image magnification and guides the surgeon during the
procedure. The system has been successfully used in over five million
minimally-invasive interventions worldwide, for a wide range of conditions:
coronary, renal, colon, prostate, bladder, gynecological, endometriosis.
The mechanisms that make the robot function optimally are
fully controlled by the approved medical personnel. Another advantage of this
complex system is that it allows physicians to practice interventions on a
simulator so that they get much better trained in the operating rooms.
