Many Surgeries Require Precise and Finite Measurements. Do You Have the Right Tools?

Surgeries Finite Measurements Surgical Tools

Precise and finite measurements are essential in many surgeries, because surgeries are all about precision; sometimes even a millimeter matters. Let`s think about eye surgery for instance.

Biometrics is the process of calculating the power of the artificial lens to be implanted in the eye of the patient with cataract. If the patient has a very advanced cataract, he/ she will probably be happy to see, after the operation, even with glasses; however, if he/ she is a patient who has higher demands and wants to have the best lens possible (even a multifocal lens!), to ensure a better view without wearing glasses, then precise biometrics is extremely important.

The concept of optical biometrics appeared precisely from the necessity of making accurate measurements. The technology behind it involves using lasers for measurements, which means that the contact with the patient's eye is avoided.

Unfortunately, optical biometrics cannot be applied in all cases; patients with very advanced cataracts cannot benefit from this method and require ultrasonic biometry instead.

If we remain in the field of eye surgery, we must also add that there are now computerized systems that allow high precision measurements for surgical intervention and, at the same time, they guide the surgeon during the operation to make precise incisions and find an accurate positioning for the artificial lens.  Visit Apiary Medical for precision surgery tools.
