The surgical suture represents the totality of the maneuvers
of anatomical restoration of a wound and of keeping its parts in contact, for a
quick and functional healing. The respective anatomical parts were previously
sectioned by an agent, either accidentally or during a surgical operation.
The surgical suture is one of the most common procedures. It
has improved a lot in recent years, both in terms of the technique and of the
materials used, which explains the successes achieved in transplant surgery,
vascular surgery, digestive surgery and more. Basically, it addresses all the
tissues and organs of the human body. Choosing the right materials depend on
the location and tension of the wound.
When performing a suture, the quality of the surgical instruments is also very important because they are used to handle the wound. Stitch scissors are
some of the most common instruments for different suture techniques. In order
to be efficient and safe for use, stitch scissors have to be made of high grade
medical stainless steel, which is frequently hardened. There are also
disposable scissors on the market, but their success is limited.
Of all the surgical scissors, Mayo scissors are the best for
various suture techniques. They have semiblunt tips, their blades and handlings
are stronger than in other types of scissors and facilitate precision.
